AFYA Sports

It is Lymm RFC’s pleasure to provide the details of a really exciting partnership that we are entering into with an organisation called AFYA (

AFYA have been challenged with providing a development program for both our players and most notably for all of our coaches at Lymm RFC.

Whilst we continue to produce numerous quality mini and junior sides reflected in another successful season we must have a plan to ensure we continue this success long into the future by preparing our coaches to best prepare our players on the pathway from the grassroots with the M&J’s through to our senior sides.

To match our ambitious plans off the field with our clubhouse project we also have an ambitious plan for this too! This investment is being made with the support of Andy Leach M&J Chairman and the Executive Committee at Lymm RFC in recognition of our huge number of volunteer coaches by helping them provide positive safe sporting experiences for our fantastic young players through regular work with AFYA who are specialists in this field.
The plan has various aspects to it, which are designed to further develop our expertise as players and coaches alike:
  • 3 x 1st XV sessions potentially lead by Elite coaches such as: Scott Pearson, Andy Titterrell, Martin Gleeson, Sean Long, Chris Jones, James Wade, Andy McKinney. These sessions will be made available to all our M&J coaches to demonstrate examples of best practise & session commentary will be provided.
  • 6 x ‘Coach the Coaches’ sessions at Lymm RFC beginning next season on Sunday mornings from 9.00-10.00am. 4/6 to be held prior to Christmas 2 sessions on generic skill/tactical development & a further 2 on the coaches preferences. Same for final two sessions content and dates TBC.
  • Each Junior age group will receive individual session feedback on a chosen Sunday where we adopt a template of good practise throughout the various age grades and have a common philosophy.
  • Strength and Conditioning: Fitness test sessions both Junior and Senior players and a specialist nutrition talk for U11-SC players.
  • AFYA to broker RFU L1&2 Coaching courses at Lymm RFC and operate holiday academies for both participation and elite players.
Please look out for the dates of these activities which are soon to be confirmed and a further plea to encourage all your fellow coaches to attend so we can claim with real confidence that at Lymm RFC our coaches continue to provide a best-in-class coaching environment for all. At the very pinnacle of the  Rugby Union coaching structure sits Eddie Jones and he has been described as an ‘idea’s collector on a never ending quest to learn’, surely we can all take something from that approach  and apply it to our own coaching!
