League Cup Quarter Final
CHESTER 2nd XV 41 – 5 LYMM 2nd XV
Chester 2’s are top of the Premiership League, one above Lymm, and like Lymm have only lost one game. This provided Lymm with a taste of life in the higher league, should they be promoted at the end of the season. Chester 1st team were at home, so Lymm had to play on a muddy, barely playable pitch, which was to the advantage of their heavier, home set of forwards. But with a reasonably strong squad, Lymm were hoping to reach the semi-finals. However, it was not to be.
The game was quite close for the first 20 minutes until Lymm were suddenly down to 13 men after two yellow cards. In this period the home side scored 21 points. The young Lymm team were up against a well organised and experienced side, who showed why they are top of the Premiership, scoring 20 more points. Lymm had two tries disallowed and their only reward was an unconverted try by James Lewis.
The 2nd team are very much part of coach Adam Fletcher’s frontline squad, in support of the demands of Level 5, North Premier rugby and our promotion aspirations. There is great camaraderie between the players of both teams. Although they both lost, it was particularly pleasing to see both teams back at the club, having a drink together and discussing their matches. The majority came through the club’s Mini/Junior & Colts section, the spirit is excellent and bodes well for the rest of the season and the future.
